Geeks around the world scream out in glee... then terror. If you've missed the recent happenings on AotS, you might be in for a treat. Then again, you might just be flabbergasted and stunned to silence. Read more to withness the horror... or the joy. I guess it all depends on who you are.
Whether you are a fan of the graphic novel or not or whether or not you even knew of the troubles plaguing the highly anticipated Zach Snyder film Watchmen, it's good news all around. Warner Bros. and Fox have reached an agreement and the movie (which was already scheduled for an early 2009 opening) is a go for March 6, 2009. In case you had missed it, there was some contention as to who had rights to what. Thankfully, for loyal fans, these two power-house film studios did not let their rivalry kill the film. With the way companies usually handle business these days, both Warner and Fox just scored some brownie points in my book.
I'm the first to despise remakes that don't bring anything new to the original film. However, I'm completely down with attempts to re-imagine a classic film.
Gus Van Zant's Psycho = Shot for shot remake of the original. Why f***ing bother?!
Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins = Added the "dark" that the Dark Knight was always missing.
Night of the Living Dead in 3-D? No one's changing the movie we love. They're just giving us a whole other dimension to experience it in. I'm completely on board with that sort of thinking!
So believe the folks over at the Dark Campaign, a fan-created support page looking to help push Academy consideration for Nolan's take on the "Batman" franchise. Best Supporting Actor nominations and Best Score considerations seem absolutely definite at this point, but the journey to the coveted Best Picture nomination may be a difficult road.
First off, Heath Ledger was posthumously awarded the Australian Film Institute’s best actor award. The guy was a decent actor and he did a bang up job in The Dark Knight, but why the f**k is he being treated like a martyr? Celebs die monthly, some from natural causes, some from drugs, and some from unclear circumstances. Why is this one any different?
As soon as the first reviews of Dark Knight RAVED about the final performance of Heath Ledger, I knew it wasn’t going to stop anytime soon. I feel more than a few critics are treating this kid like he was going to be greatest thing to hit Hollywood. To be honest, I think that’s ridiculous. The guy had a TON of movies under his belt and he hadn’t blown me away yet.
I guess the child in me never truly died, which is why I'm totally going to see The Tale of Despereaux in a couple weeks.
Yet, even though that inner child exists, his taste in fantasy is still tempered by a very adult need for meaningful stories and deep character motivations. So the whole time I'll be watching Despereaux, I'll really be wishing it was a Mouse Guard movie.
For all you fellow Mouse Guard fans, a few rumors are being tossed around that one day MG will have its much deserved big screen treatment. The author himself stated that, "We have a producer attached and we are working with a screenwriter to adapt the Fall story and elaborate on it to make a film."
For those of you who missed SynapticM3's heads-up about the new Star Trek movie trailer...it's up now on Paramount's official page for the movie, which itself has been overhauled (click here to watch it).
And...good lord!
I'd previously seen the trailer right in front of "Quantum of Solace", and it was amazing. Watching it again to pick up on everything I missed in my original squeeing, it looks like J.J. Abrams and company are looking to give this modern reboot a touch of the classic's campy style and dialogue while adding new depth to established characters, including what looks to be a good amount of tense moments when Kirk and Spock share the limelight on the silver screen.
Oh...and Uhura takes her top off.
"Star Trek" seeks to begin 2009's summer movie season with a bang. The movie's slated to hit theaters on May 8th.
Chances are you've already seen the teaser trailer for the new J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek movie. The story of the early years of James T. Kirk and his crew of the USS Enterprise slated for release in May 2009. Well, how about the unofficially released one that's been doing laps around the net?
The official trailer is going online Monday in HD. But for those of us who can't wait, myself included, there's good news. In classic hand held camera bootleg fashion it's out now on Youtube. So until May 2009, live long and prosper.
"The whores and the politicians shall look up and shout "Save us!"
The new trailer for the highly anticipated "Watchmen" movie is now online. Those wishing to gawk at it can head over to the Watchmen Movie site.
Though it doesn't have the same emotional impact as the first trailer that hit, it's still gives you an amazing glimpse of what's to come. The film combines the directorial talents of Zack Snyder ("300") with what looks to be an exceptional translation of the source material by David Hayter ("X-Men", "X2") and Alex Tse.
